The iPod nano is a compact version of Apple's standard iPod music player. At the time of publication, there have been six hardware generations of iPod nano devices. The first five generations featured a click-wheel for menu navigation. The sixth generation eliminated the click-wheel and replaced it with a touch screen. Increasing the sound volume is accomplished differently depending on the hardware generation of your iPod nano.

First Generation Through Fifth Generation

Step 1

Play any song or audiobook on your iPod nano.

Step 2

Select "Now Playing" from the main menu. This screen displays information about the current song or audiobook being played.

Step 3

Scroll the click wheel clockwise to increase the sound volume. A volume indicator bar will appear onscreen to display current volume level.

Sixth Generation

Step 1

Play any song or audiobook on your iPod nano.

Step 2

Touch the "Now Playing" button on the main menu.

Step 3

Press the "Volume Up" button located on the top of the iPod nano. It is a small circular button with "+" on it. Press the button repeatedly until the sound volume is satisfactory.

Warning

  • If no song or audiobook is currently playing, you will not be able to increase the volume.
