Your friends can post messages on your Facebook account which then appear on your Timeline. If you have a lot of friends, you can receive dozens of these messages daily. Fortunately, Facebook allows you to ignore the messages by hiding them from the Timeline. Your friends retain the ability to post on your Timeline, so you'll be able to keep the interesting messages. If you want to actually ignore messages sent to your Inbox, you can mark all of them as "Read."
Ignore Messages on the Timeline
Navigate to Facebook, log in to your account and click your name in the top left corner of the page to view your Timeline.
Locate the message that you want to ignore and hover the cursor over the message. Two icons appear in the top right corner of the message: "Highlight" and "Edit or Remove."
Click the "Edit or Remove" icon and choose "Hide from Timeline" to ignore the message.
Ignore Messages in the Inbox
Log in to your Facebook account and click "Messages" in the Favorites section to navigate to your Inbox.
Click "More" in the left pane and choose "Unread" from the menu to view only unread messages.
Click the "Mark all as read" link to mark the messages as read and ignore them. You'll no longer see the number of unread messages next to "Messages" in the Favorites section.
- To prevent your friends from posting on your Timeline, click the arrowhead next to "Home," select "Privacy Settings," click "Edit Settings" in the Timeline and Tagging section and select "No One" in the "Who can post on your timeline" box.
