The FM Radio app that comes standard on the HTC EVO can't be installed from the Google Play store. It's bundled software that isn't available for people with other devices to download. To reinstall it after its lost, you must either use the Android Package file, or APK file, or reboot the device to factory settings. If your phone isn't rooted, your only option is to restore factory settings on the device. After the reboot, FM Radio will be available again.

Step 1

Open your list of apps and tap "Google Play" to open the Android app store.

Step 2

Search "App Installer" and choose a program from the list that is designed to install apps on an HTC EVO, such as Easy Installer, appInstaller and AppInstaller EX Free. Read the app description and reviews before installing it.

Step 3

Remove your SD card from your phone, plug it into your adapter and insert it into your computer.

Step 4

Download an APK file from a message board or an APK file library online. Forums such as Android Forums, PPC Geeks and XDA Developers often share APK files during discussions, and you can download them from the board. When you download it, save it to a folder you can easily find on your computer. Transfer the APK file for the FM Radio app to your SD card. Remove it from the computer. Take it out of the adapter and place it back in your EVO.

Step 5

Tap the app installer you downloaded to open it.

Step 6

Choose "Install App" from the menu and pick the FM Radio APK from the list of files on the SD card. If it's in a folder on the SD card, tap the folder to open it and view the files.

Step 7

Tap the FM Radio APK to start the installation process. Click "Yes" or "OK" to confirm that you want to install it.

Depending on the program you've selected, the phone may restart. The FM Radio App will be installed with your apps.

Restore your HTC EVO

Step 1

Power down your EVO. Press the volume down button and hold it.

Step 2

Press the power button without releasing the volume button.

Step 3

Choose "Clear Storage" from the menu that appears. Press the power button to select it. Press volume up to confirm. The phone will reboot.

Step 4

Click "Skip" to skip the tutorial.

Step 5

Click "Next" to confirm the default Google location selections.

Step 6

Click "Skip" again to skip email account setups.

Step 7

Click "Finish" to end setup. The homescreen of the phone will load and you'll be able to access the FM Radio app.

Tip

  • You can replace FM Radio app with an app that has the same features. Just search "FM Radio" in the Google Play store to find an app and click "Download" to install.

Warning

  • There is no official source for the .apk file. Make sure the place you download it from is trustworthy. It could harm your phone or your computer.
