If you cannot connect your iPod to your computer to perform a software restore, you must perform a hardware reset. This allows you to reset your iPod to the factory default settings without connecting it to a computer.

Step 1

Shift your iPod hold button to the unhold (gray) position.

Step 2

Shift your iPod to the hold position (orange) and back again.

Step 3

Hold down the "Play" and "Menu" buttons at the same time for eight seconds until you see the Apple logo.

Tip

  • If the above reset doesn't work, try holding down the center button and the menu button at the same time for 10 seconds until the screen goes blank. The iPod will then take a few moments to restore its settings to factory default.
