A "flash" refers to the procedure of replacing the information contained on the BIOS chip within the computer. Where a flash goes wrong, the computer may be unable to boot or load. Repairing a bad flash on your Asus EEE laptop can take one of two forms--if your computer is still able to boot, you can repeat the process. If the computer is unable to boot at all you must have the BIOS chip replaced by a service technician.

Still bootable computer

Step 1

Insert the USB drive that contains the BIOS file into your computer and start the machine.

Step 2

Press "Alt"+"F2" as the computer starts to load the built-in BIOS updater. The computer will auto-detect the BIOS file on the thumbdrive and re-flash the computer.

Step 3

Reboot the computer at the end of the procedure. Your EEE laptop should once again be functional.

Tip

  • If your computer will not boot at all, request a BIOS chip replacement from a computer service technician.
