The Sony PS3 uses a broadband Internet connection to connect to its PlayStation Network and have access to downloadable content, or DLC for short. Downloadable content includes all PSN games, game add-ons, PS3 themes, comics and many other products available on the PlayStation Network. If you do not have a DSL connection for your PS3, use the direct Ethernet connection from a high-speed broadband modem.

Step 1

Plug the broadband Ethernet cable into the back of the Sony PS3. Select the "Network Settings" option in the PS3 menu.

Step 2

Select "Internet Connection Settings" from the next screen. Select "Wired Connection" and "Easy" from the next two screens.

Step 3

Press the "X" button to save the settings and test the connection. Press the "O" button to return to the PS3 main menu.

Step 4

Select the "PSN" option on the PS3 menu and enter in your PSN account user name and password. The PS3 is now connected to the PSN Store. From here you have a few options.

Step 5

Select one of the download categories on the PSN Store main screen. Select the downloadable content you want to download and select "Add to Cart."

Step 6

Select "View Cart" when you have finished adding content to your download cart and select "Proceed to Checkout."

Step 7

Select "Confirm Purchase" and enter in the credit card information for non-free purchases. Select the item once the purchase is completed to install it onto the PS3.
