Many websites offer music MP3s for download to computers or other portable devices. They offer this service free or for a fee. Depending on the website, you may have the option of paying for the music per download or signing up for a subscription and paying a monthly service fee. You can download MP3s in a short amount of time on Microsoft Windows Vista.

Step 1

Visit a music website and register for an account, if required (see Resources). This involves creating a username and password. You may need to respond to a confirmation email to activate your account. Such sites include Rhapsody, eMusic and Amazon MP3.

Step 2

Download and install any software required. For instance, Rhapsody and Amazon provide software that simplifies the download process. Some of these programs are also designed to play the music.

Step 3

Search for the music MP3 you wish to download and add it to your cart. Proceed to checkout and make a payment. Some music sites also offer free MP3s.

Step 4

Choose a folder in which to save the file on your computer. Click the "Save" button. Note that some music sites, Amazon MP3, will download music directly to the music player the Windows Media Player in Windows Vista.

Step 5

Open the folder containing the file and double-click to launch it. This will launch the music player on your computer and start the music playback. If the file downloaded to your music player, launch the program then double-click on the song to begin playback.
