Portable media players such as MP3 players can hold many music files. If you'd like to listen to your music on your computer as well as on your media player, you can download music from the media player to your computer using a program like Windows Media Player. If you have Windows, then you likely already have this program ready to go.

Step 1

Hook up your media player to your computer with the USB cord that came with the player. A new window should appear on your screen after a few moments.

Step 2

Select the option to open Windows Media Player. Click on the "Sync" tab. You should see your media player's name listed in the bottom left corner of the "Sync" tab. Click on the text there and you'll see the music files listed under the player.

Step 3

Click and drag the music you want to where it says "Drag files here" in the "Sync" tab.

Step 4

Click the "Copy from device" button to download music from your player to your computer's hard drive.

Tip

  • Make sure you install any CD that came with your media player so your computer will recognize the player when you hook it up.
