MSN Messenger, also known as Windows Live Messenger, is a helpful way to stay in touch with your contacts via instant messaging and file sharing. People who don't have access to a computer at all times may find it more convenient to download MSN Mobile, which provides most of the same MSN Messenger chat capability as well as other useful options, such as directions, news, sports and weather updates.

Step 1

Launch the Internet browser of your choice on a personal computer and navigate to the MSN Mobile Web site (see References).

Step 2

Enter your 10-digit phone number, including area code, in the Try MSN on Your Mobile! field.

Step 3

Click "Send to Mobile." This prompts MSN Mobile to send a text message to your phone. Your cellular phone carrier's standard text messaging rates apply to this text message.

Step 4

Tap or select the URL provided in the MSN Mobile text message on your cellular phone. If your phone does not automatically open the link when you select it, you may need to highlight the URL and choose "Launch URL" or "Connect" to take you to the proper page.

Step 5

Tap or select "Download MSN Mobile" on the MSN Mobile download page. Wait for the program to download and install on your cellular phone. This process may take only minutes, but it may take much longer depending upon the type of cellular phone and Internet connection you are using.

Tip

  • After downloading MSN Mobile Messenger to your cell phone, you can sign in using a preexisting account. If you need to create a new account, select the "Register" link on the sign-in page.
