Facebook offers a free mobile phone text service that allows you to update your Facebook status with text messages as well as receive texts when you have account notifications such as messages, new friend alerts or when someone responds to your posts. If you've previously set up mobile phone access on your cell phone and you don't like it, you can easily disable the text messages or completely remove your phone number from Facebook mobile.

Step 1

Open your web browser and visit the Facebook page. Log in to your Facebook account and click the "Accounts" drop-down menu in the top-right corner of the page. Select "Account Settings."

Step 2

Click the "Mobile" tab at the top of the page.

Step 3

Scroll down and select "Off" for the "Texts are" setting. Click "Save Preferences." Disabling phone access only stops you from receiving text message updates from Facebook; you can still text your selected Facebook number to update your status.

Step 4

Click on "Remove" to the right of the phone number you wish to disable phone access with below the "Mobile Phones" section if you want to completely remove the selected phone number from your Facebook mobile access. Once removed you will no longer be able to send texts to update your status.

Tip

  • Alternatively, text "Off" to the same five-digit number you regularly send Facebook updates to, to disable Facebook texts.
  • You can always re-add your phone to Facebook mobile if you change your mind later.
