The Compaq Advisor is a program shipped with Compaq Presario computers, including desktops and notebooks. The program is designed to offer technical advice, trouble-shooting and information to maximize the consumers' use of their Compaq computers. But the Compaq Advisor requires system resources to run, and some users might find the "advice" more annoying than helpful. Disable the Compaq Advisor in a few easy steps.

Step 1

Click "Start" and select "Run." This opens the "Run" dialog box.

Step 2

Enter "msconfig" in the "Open" field and press "Enter."

Step 3

Click the "Services" tab of the "System Configuration" window that opens.

Step 4

Uncheck the box next to "Compaq Advisor" by clicking it.

Step 5

Press "Apply" and choose "OK."

Step 6

Click "Restart" in the pop-up window that asks you to restart your computer for the settings to take effect.
