How to Delete Information From a Canceled Account

When you set up an account with a retail website, the site will often store bits of your personal data in a form called cookies. Internet cookies can contain your password, credit card information or Social Security number. After canceling an account with one of these websites, it is wise to delete all of the cookies on your computer and make sure your data is no longer linked to the canceled account.

Internet Explorer Instructions

Step 1

Launch the Internet Explorer browser.

Step 2

Go to "Tools" in the top menu bar and choose "Internet Options."

Step 3

Go to the "General" tab at the top of the pop-up window.

Step 4

Click on the "Delete" button underneath the "Browsing History" section of the window.

Step 5

Check the box next to "Cookies" and then click on "Delete" to permanently remove cookies and delete any stored information from your canceled account.

Firefox Instructions

Step 1

Launch the Mozilla Firefox browser.

Step 2

Go to the "Tools" menu and select the "Clear Private Data" option.

Step 3

Check the box next to "Cookies" in the pop-up window.

Step 4

Hit the "Clear Private Data Now" button to permanently remove cookies and delete any stored information from your canceled account.
