How to Delete Apple iPod Songs From a Device

Songs can be transferred onto any Apple iPod using the Apple program iTunes. The same software program is needed in order to delete songs from your iPod. In order to view and delete the desired songs, you will need to sync the media player with the iTunes software. Depending on the settings of the iPod, you may also need to change how the player syncs with the program in order to delete songs on the iPod.

Change IPod Sync Settings

Step 1

Plug your iPod into the computer by using the iPod's USB cable.

Step 2

Open the iTunes program.

Step 3

Click the name of the iPod located on the far left of iTunes underneath the "Devices" menu. Tabs will be made visible at the top of the program. Click the "Summary" tab. The syncing options for the iPod will be made visible in the middle of iTunes.

Step 4

Click the square for the "Manually manage music and videos" syncing option.

Step 5

Click the "Apply" button that's at the bottom of iTunes to change the setting. Keep your iPod plugged in.

Delete Songs From Apple IPod

Step 1

Click the small arrow next to the name of the iPod. Several options will appear underneath the iPod.

Step 2

Click the "Music" option found directly under the iPod name. The songs saved on the device will be listed in the center of iTunes.

Step 3

Select every song you wish to delete from the iPod by clicking each one.

Step 4

Click "Edit" at the top of the program. A drop menu will open. Select "Delete" in the menu to delete the songs from the iPod.
