If you've ever purchased a CD of an unsigned band at a live music venue or from a street performer, odds are they've recorded and burned that CD using recording equipment and a personal computer. The most common format of the tracks on these independently manufactured CDs is called MP3. Copying these MP3 disks to your iPod is just like copying audio CDs, and you can do it in just a few simple steps.

Step 1

Place the CD into the disk drive of your computer. The computer and iTunes will automatically recognize and read the disk.

Step 2

Click "Yes" in the dialog box that pops up asking if you want to import the CD.

Step 3

Connect your iPod to the computer using the iPod USB cable, when iTunes has finished importing the CD. The iPod should automatically sync its library with the iTunes library, adding the songs you've just imported from the MP3 CD. If it does not, select the iPod from the "Devices" sub-menu in your iTunes library. In the new window, click the "Sync" button.
