How to Copy a DivX Movie File on to MP3 Player

The DivX format compresses data from a video into video files with smaller sizes, without much loss of video quality. While DivX movie files are ideal for storing to your computer's hard drive or for burning to disc, the DivX format is not compatible with most standard MP3 players. Before you can copy a DivX movie file onto your MP3 player, you must convert the DivX video into one of the standard video types accepted on your MP3 player.

Step 1

Read the manual for your MP3 player or consult an online list, such as the one at Top Ten Reviews (see Resources), to determine the type of video files your MP3 player can accept. MP4 is a common MP3 player file type that is compatible with many players, including iPods.

Step 2

Visit a website that converts video from the DivX format to the standard file types accepted on most MP3 players. One popular website for conversion is Zamzar (see Resources).

Step 3

Click the "Browse" button and find the DivX file on your computer's hard drive that you want to copy onto your MP3 player. Click the file to select it and click the "Open" button to import it into the converter.

Step 4

Select any file type that is compatible with your MP3 player. The file types are listed in the "Video File Types" section of the "Output Format" or "Convert Type" box. Besides MP4, regularly accepted file types on MP3 players include WMV and AVI.

Step 5

Include your email address in the provided box on the media converter screen and click the "OK" or "Convert" button. The file begins the conversion from DivX to the video format you selected. You can close the media converter screen, because the file is emailed to you automatically when the conversion is finished.

Tip

  • If your MP3 player is compatible with the AVI format, the DivX movie file may be compatible with the MP3 player without conversion. DivX files are often compressed AVI files that are compatible with AVI devices.
  • It can take several hours to convert a DivX video file through an online conversion system if the file is large.
