Although there are numerous YouTube video converter programs that cost a nominal fee, you can also use YouTube video-copying sites that download the videos directly from the YouTube server. Prior to downloading the video the Video-copying site provides you the option to select which format you wish to convert the YouTube video into, including the .mp4 file format used for iPods. These sites are free to use, and allows you to convert video files up to 150MB in size.

Step 1

Open your Internet browser, and go to the YouTube video page you wish to convert.

Step 2

Highlight the YouTube video's URL, and right-click the highlighted area. Select "Copy" from the shortcut menu, and press the "Delete" or "Backspace" key on your keyboard to clear your browser's URL.

Step 3

Type in the YouTube video-ripping site's URL in the URL field and press "Enter" on your keyboard, or click one of the links in the Resources section.

Step 4

Right-click the blank URL field in the browser's main window, and select "Paste" from the shortcut menu. Select "iPod" or ".mp4" in the Format section, and click the "Start" button.

Step 5

Wait for the conversion to complete, and click the "Download" button to save the converted file to your computer.
