Windows Media Player is the default audio/video player on all Windows-based computers. The standard video format for the player is .wmv (Windows Media Video). The standard video format for Mac computers and its native QuickTime is .mov. Although both media players can play the opposite file formats, you may want to convert the Windows Media Player .wmv to .mov.

Step 1

Open your Web browser and download a video converter. There are several different file converters available on the Internet, such as "RiverPast," "Leawo" and "Aimersoft-mac."

Step 2

Click the download link to download the program to your computer.

Step 3

Double-click the downloaded file and the installation wizard loads. Select "Next," leave the installation name and location as the default settings, then choose "Install."

Step 4

Open the program you installed. Select "Add Video," (or "File," followed by "Add Video"). Select the .wmv Windows Media Player file you want to add convert.

Step 5

Select a save location, then select .mov as the format you want to convert to. Click either "Start" or "Convert" and the .wmv file converts to the .mov video file format.
