The WAV or WAVE format is a common audio file type often used for saving CD-quality audio data. WAV files are similar in structure to the more prevalent AIFF format. The MP3 audio format, developed by the Moving Pictures Experts Group, is the most commonly used and widely compatible music format available. In Windows Vista, the best way to convert from WAV to MP3 is by using an online converter.

Zamzar

Step 1

Open Zamzar.com (See Resources).

Step 2

Click the "Choose File" button to select the WAV file you want to convert.

Step 3

Select "MP3" as your output file format in the drop-down menu.

Step 4

Enter your email address in the menu.

Step 5

Click "Convert." After Zamzar converts the file, you'll receive an email with a link to your new file.

Media Converter

Step 1

Open Media Converter.org (See Resources).

Step 2

Click the "Upload a file" button and locate the WAV file you wish to convert. The file name will appear in the "Selected files" menu. Click "OK."

Step 4

Click "Start" in the "Summary" menu to begin your conversion.

Step 5

Use the Media Converter download link to download the new file once the conversion is complete.

Tip

  • If you have iTunes installed and want to play the files on your iPod, you can also simply drag the files into iTunes and they will be converted automatically.
