Video files that are saved on your computer can be opened using a variety of different media programs and transferred onto certain portable media players. Not all video formats are compatible with Video iPods or the iTunes software. If a video file will not play in iTunes, you will need to convert the file to a different format. The MP4 video format is compatible with iTunes and Video iPods. You can convert videos to this format online for free.
Zamzar
Step 1
Open a Web browser and navigate to the Zamzar website.
Step 2
Click the "Browse" tab on the left side of the page.
Step 3
Search throughout all of the files that are listed in the window that appears. Click on the video you wish to convert to MP4 and select "Open."
Step 4
Click the "Convert files to" drop-down menu on the web page and select "MP4" inside that menu.
Step 5
Type your email address inside the text box located between the "Convert files to" drop-down menu and the "Convert" button.
Step 6
Click "Convert" on the right side of the page. The video you selected in step 3 will be converted to MP4. Zamzar will send you an email once the video is converted.
Step 7
Open the Zamzar email (sent to your account) and click on the download link that is found inside. A Zamzar page will open inside the browser.
Step 8
Click the green "Download Now" tab on the right side of the page to save the MP4 file on your computer.
YouConvertIt
Step 1
Use your Web browser to open the YouConvertIt page.
Step 2
Enter your email address inside the "E-mail address" text box on the page.
Step 3
Click the "Browse" button near the middle of the web page. In the window that appears, find and click the video you want to convert to MP4. Click the "Open" tab that is positioned at the bottom of the open window.
Step 4
Click the "Convert To" drop-down menu and select "MP4." Click "Convert It" located directly under the drop-down menu. The video you chose in step 3 will be converted to MP4. YouConvertIt will send you an email when the process has finished.
Step 5
Open the email from YouConvertIt. A download link will be located inside this email. Click on the download link to save the MP4 on your computer.
