Although MP4s are generally audio and video files, you may have songs that are MPEG-4 audio with no video. Mac users will find it easy to convert these songs using iTunes. However, PC users have no native software that can perform these conversions, so they will either need to download an audio conversion program or visit an Internet site such as Zamzar or Media Convert. These websites perform all conversions within the site itself, and require no software downloads. Users may choose to receive email alerts when conversions are complete.
Download and install iTunes free from Apple. Agree to the licensing terms and launch the software.
Click "Edit" and "Add to Library" to locate your MP4 songs in the pop-up window and open in iTunes.
Select "Preferences" from the "Apple" menu and click "Import Settings." Select "MP3 Encoder" from the drop down list and click "Ok" twice to exit back to the iTunes library.
Right-click your MP4 audio file and choose "Create MP3 Version." Your new MP3 will appear below your old MP4.
Open your web browser and navigate to Zamzar.com.
Click "Browse..." under the Step 1 instructions to allow Zamzar to access the MP4 songs on your computer.
Choose "MP3" as the format you want to convert to in the drop down menu.
Enter your email address into the box under Step 3.
