The MPEG-4 or MP4 file type, used for both audio and videos, is a creation of the productive Moving Picture Experts Group. MP4 files are often used for online file sharing and file downloads. While some devices and applications understand the MP4 format, it's not nearly as used as the ubiquitous MP3 music file format. MP3s are highly compressed audio files that typically contain near-CD quality sound. Free online tools can perform MP4 to MP3 conversions.
Access Zamzar (see Resources).
Click "Choose File" and find the MP4 you want to convert. Then select MP3 as your song output format.
Give Zamzar your email address and click "Convert" to transfer the MP4 and check your email inbox. You'll receive a message with a link to the MP3 once the conversion finishes.
Access Mediaconverter in any web browser (see Resources).
Select "Upload a file" and sniff out the MP4. Next, select MP3 for you song output.
Click "Start" to convert your MP4. After that's done, click the download link to snag your song.
