How to Convert Files to MP4 for an iPod

The majority of Apple's iPod line supports both audio and video playback. While the devices can interpret a variety of audio formats, their video playback abilities are more limited. One of the few video formats the iPod understands is the MP4. The MP4 or MPEG-4 video format, developed by the Moving Pictures Experts Group, is a high-quality video format that's compatible with many portable devices.

Step 1

Open mediaconverter.org. See link under Resources below.

Step 2

Click the "Upload a file" button and locate the file you wish to convert. The file name will appear in the "Selected files" menu. Click "OK."

Step 3

Select "MP4" as your output file format in the dropdown menu. Click "OK."

Step 4

Click "Start" in the "Summary" menu to begin your conversion.

Step 5

Use the Mediaconverter download link to download the new file once the conversion is complete.

Step 1

Open Zamzar.com. See link under Resources below.

Step 2

Click the "Choose File" button to select the file you want to convert.

Step 3

Select "MP4" as your output file format in the dropdown menu.

Step 4

Enter your email address in the menu.

Step 5

Click "Convert." After Zamzar converts the file, you'll be sent an email with a link to your new file.
