Included in the Microsoft Office suite of productivity products, Microsoft Outlook is a personal information management application. It provides calendar, address book and to-do list functionality, in addition to sending, receiving and managing email messages. Outlook Express is a lightweight version of Outlook, offering fewer features and more limited functionality. Once you understand the proper steps, importing Outlook Express email messages into Outlook becomes a quick task.

Step 1

Open Microsoft Outlook. If the Outlook Startup Wizard appears, click "Next" on the first screen, and then select "No" and click "Next" on the following screen. Check the "Continue with no e-mail support" box on the third screen, and then click "Finish."

Step 2

Click "File" in the top menu bar and select "Import and Export."

Step 3

Select "Import Internet Mail and Addresses" and click "Next."

Step 4

Select "Outlook Express 4.x, 5.x, 6.x or Windows Mail," check the box labeled "Import Mail," and then click "Next."

Step 5

Select your duplicate items preference and click "Finish" to start the import process.

Step 6

Click "OK" to close the "Import Summary" dialog box after the process completes. Your Outlook Express messages can now be viewed in Outlook.
