How to Convert an AVI to an .FLV Video File

by Jamie Lisse

FLV files are Flash video files. Typically this file type is used for Internet videos on websites such as MySpace and YouTube because they are small in size. If you have some AVI video files, which are large in size, that you want to be able to use on the Internet, you can convert those files to smaller FLV files. A video converter program is all that is needed to convert AVI files into FLV files. Free converter programs, like Any Video Converter and AVS Video Converter, can do the file conversion quickly and easily.

Step 1

Download and install the free version of Any Video Converter. Be sure that you download the correct version because there is also a pro version that you have to purchase.

Step 2

Open up the Any Video Converter program on your computer.

Step 3

Add all of the AVI files that you need to convert by clicking on the "Add Video" button. Multiple files can be converted at the same time.

Step 4

Use the pop out menu in the "Profile" field to select your output file type as FLV. This sets your conversion to an FLV file. The program preselects a destination for the new FLV file, such as My Documents. If you want to check it or change it, click on "Output Folder" on the lower left of the screen.

Step 5

Click on the "Encode" button located on the toolbar to start the conversion. The "Status" column will update to "Complete" by each file as it finishes converting. A message will appear when all files have converted to let you know that it is done. Close the message to begin using the new FLV video files.
