A veritable panoply of different audio container formats are used for digital recording, editing and file sharing. Popular digital music formats include the WMA or Windows Media Audio format, the AAC or Advanced Audio Coding format and the WAVE music container. Still, no format has matched the popularity of the Moving Picture Experts Group's MP3 container. MP3 files work in nearly every type of music application and on almost all portable music players. Many online software tools can turn your audio files into MP3s at no cost.
