The Windows XP operating system includes a tool called Remote Desktop that allows you to connect to your home or office computer from other PC workstations. The tool uses a network protocol to communicate with your PC over the Internet. If Remote Desktop is not configured properly, the connection will fail, and you will be unable to access your computer remotely.

Step 1

Log on to your PC computer with an administrator account.

Step 2

Open the Start menu and click on "Control Panel."

Step 3

Double click on the "System" icon.

Step 4

Go to the "Remote" tab at the top of the pop-up window.

Step 5

Check the box next to "Allow users to connect remotely to this computer."

Step 6

Press the "OK" or "Apply" to save the settings and finish configuring Remote Desktop.
