HP printer-scanner-copiers will detect and copy anything on their glass surface. Any dust or smudges on the glass can ruin an otherwise perfect scan, so keep your HP all-in-one printer's glass clean using HP's suggestions. These cleaning tips can be used with any HP printer-scanner-copier with a platen glass surface.

Step 1

Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.

Step 2

Lift the printer's hinged lid to access the platen glass.

Step 3

Spray nonabrasive glass cleaner onto a lint-free cloth.

Step 4

Wipe the damp cloth over the platen glass and the white backing of the scanner lid.

Step 5

Use a chamois or cellulose sponge to dry the glass and remove streaks. This step won't be necessary if you don't see streaking or spotting.

Step 6

Plug the printer back in and print, scan or copy as usual.

Warnings

  • Always spray the glass cleaner onto a cloth and not on the glass directly. Liquid can seep under the glass and affect the printer's hardware if you spray directly on it.
  • HP cautions against using ammonia-based glass cleaner. Also avoid cleansers containing acetone, benzene, ethyl alcohol or carbon tetrachloride as these can damage your machine.
