How to Check AT&T Phone Outage Areas

If your cell phone or home phone does not receive a dial tone and you cannot make or receive calls, it's likely you are affected by a service outage. AT&T service outages occur for a variety of reasons, such as bad weather or a downed phone line. When your phone stops working, you probably will want to know whether an outage is causing it or if it's just your phone having trouble. AT&T offers a way to check if your area is experiencing a service outage.

Step 1

Go to the AT&T Support website (see Resources). Under "Voice," click "Select."

Step 2

Click "Yes" if you know your account user name and password, then click "Continue" and sign in.

Step 3

Click "Continue" under "Can't Make/Receive Calls." If an outage has been reported in your area, a notification appears informing you of the problem. If there is not an outage, no notification appears.

Tip

  • Another way to check for outages is to call AT&T customer support at 1-800-331-0500.
  • You can also check for an outage by looking at AT&T's Twitter feed.
