When you're in a fast-paced Yahoo! chat room, a lot of interesting conversation gets lost in the flow of text. One way to make yourself distinct from the other users in a chat room is with a unique text style -- be it with an uncommon color, font face or even a slightly different size or emphasis. You have the option to change all of your text or highlight to change just one section.
Step 1
Open Yahoo! Messenger on your computer and enter the chat room of your choice.
Step 2
Locate the toolbar above your text input box. On this toolbar is an icon of a "T" with a palette beside it. Click the icon to display the text toolbar above your text input box.
Step 3
Choose your font from the drop-down menu of font choices.
Step 4
Select the appropriate font size.
Step 5
Press the color icon to choose a color for your text.
Step 6
Click the bold, underline or italic icons to change the emphasis of certain words or phrases. Activate and deactivate this formatting by pressing "Ctrl+B," "Ctrl+U," or "Ctrl+I" on your keyboard, respectively.
Tip
- Yahoo! chat rooms are only accessible when using the Yahoo! Messenger client for either Windows or Mac.
- Script fonts may be difficult to read at reasonable sizes, and if you're using a custom-installed font it may not show up on other users' screens. If other users do not have your chosen font installed on their computers, they see Yahoo! Messenger's default font.
