While laptops can provide a full PC computing experience on the go, netbooks are geared primarily toward simple computing tasks such as checking e-mail, word processing, and browsing the Internet. HP is one maker of netbooks and depending on your model, provides one of two preinstalled operating systems: Windows 7 Starter or Windows 7 Home Premium. If you have the Home Premium version, changing your background is a simple process. However, if you have the Starter edition, you will have to use a third-party tool to change the background.
Windows 7 Home Premium
Step 1
Right-click on the desktop and choose "Personalize."
Step 2
Click on "Desktop Background."
Step 3
Navigate to the folder with your picture and select the picture you want to use.
Step 4
Click "Save changes."
Windows 7 Starter
Step 1
Download a third-party application designed to change your background. Several of these are available online. See Resources for a few examples.
Step 2
Install the program by following the on-screen instructions.
Step 3
Run the program.
Step 4
Click on "Browse" or "Choose" and navigate to the folder with your picture and select the picture you want to use.
Step 5
Save your changes to set the new background.
Warning
- Note that "working around the technical limitations" of Windows 7 Starter does violate the EULA of the software package. Downloading a package to modify the software is done so at your own risk.
