Apple's iPod portable music player lets you enjoy music on the go with a set of headphones. You also can connect your iPod to other devices such as a stereo or computer to listen to music in your home. To share your iPod music with your computer, you must have iTunes installed. Apple designed the ITunes music software for reading, synchronizing and playing music with an iPod.

Step 1

Click the Windows "Start" button, "All Programs" and then "iTunes." If you don't have iTunes currently installed on your computer, go to Apple's website and download the installation software. Double-click the setup file to install the software on your computer.

Step 2

Plug one end of a USB cable into the iPod. Plug the other end into an open USB port on your computer.

Step 3

Click the iPod device icon in the "Devices" menu on the left side of the iTunes window. ITunes displays a playlist beneath the device icon showing the music playlists on your iPod.

Step 4

Click a playlist to listen to it. ITunes will load the playlist in the main playlist window.

Step 5

Click a song in the playlist. Press the "Play" button at the top of iTunes to play the song.
