DirecTV uses satellite technology to deliver services to millions of customers nationwide. From satellite Internet to on demand features, DirecTV provides its customers with the latest technology for hours of entertainment for the whole family. DirecTV's on demand service, called Cinema, offers TV shows and movies when it's convenient for the customer to watch. This service is available free to all DirecTV customers with an HD DVR who have a wireless or Ethernet Internet connection.

Cinema Features

Cinema is an on demand service offered to DirecTV customers. Movies are streamed to your TV set instantly without having to go to a rental store to order a movie. Cinema offers new release movies for a small fee (mostly $4.99 and $5.99) and many other movies and TV shows are free. Customers like Cinema because new release movies come out almost a month before other services, such as Netflix or Redbox.

Professional Installation

Cinema requires an Internet connection to your HD DVR. An HD DVR offers quality HD picture and a DVR service that allows you to record movies and shows to watch at your convenience. Call 800-531-5000 to have a professional install your connection kit. If you are a new customer, installation is free. If you are a current DirecTV subscriber, the cost of professional installation is $49.00. After professional installation is complete, you will have access to Cinema's benefits.

Self-Installation

Order a self-installation kit by calling 800-531-5000 or order online at DirecTV's website. The cost of the connection kit is $25.00. The connection kit comes with a wireless adapter and all necessary cables. After you receive the kit, plug an Ethernet cable into one end of the wireless adapter and the other end into your HD DVR receiver. Plug the power cable into an outlet. Your router should recognize the connection and an on-screen message will be displayed on your TV. Select "Configure Now" and locate your wireless network. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up the connection.

How to Use Cinema

Verify your connection is working properly by selecting "Menu" on your remote. In the "Parental, FAV's & Setup" section, select "Network," then "Connect Now." A message should be displayed that your connection is set up correctly. To use Cinema, turn the channel to 1100. The menu on-screen will allow you to make your selection. You can choose new releases or browse movies by selecting a genre or channel. After locating a program to watch, your movie or TV show will be downloaded to your DVR list. To access this list, press "List" on your remote control.
