The Zune digital media player not only lets you play MP3 and music files, it also lets you play both streaming and downloaded movies. The media player even has its own content website where you can download television shows, see movie trailers and load content directly onto your Zune player. Setting up and installing your Zune player is easy--all you need is the startup disc and your computer. The Zune player doesn't have to be connected to your computer during the setup process.

Installing the Zune Software

Insert the Zune startup disc into your computer's CD/DVD drive. The disc will start automatically. The Zune logo will appear on your computer's screen and a welcome message will display before the installation process begins.

Installation Process

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the Zune software installation process. When prompted to restart your computer, click the "Restart" icon. The Zune software is now installed on your system. Once your computer restarts, remove the Zune startup disc and store it in a safe place.

Connecting the Zune Media Player

Connect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection cable that came with the Zune player to both the Zune player and any available USB port on your computer. Your system will recognize the media player and launch the Zune software. You will be prompted with a series of questions related to setting up the content library on the player, synchronization options, assigning a name to your player, whether you want to stream content to your Xbox 360 gaming device and whether you would like to erase the pre-installed content on your Zune media player. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the settings configuration.

Creating Your Zune Account

Once your Zune digital media player is properly configured, you will next be prompted to create a Zune account so you can download content to your media player. Your Zune player uses a Windows Live ID to log in to the content website. Follow the on-screen prompts to create your Windows Live ID, if you don't already have one. Once your personal information is entered, you are ready to access the media player's website and download content for your Zune player.
