An important issue to be aware of with digital cell phones is their signal reception. When signal strength is low, call quality is poor and sometimes calls are dropped. This can be bothersome for long conversations or dangerous in an emergency. However, there are various tricks and methods to help boost a cell phone's signal. These methods can help solve the low signal problem in many occasions and help improve call quality on your cell phone.

Step 1

Keep away from pieces of metal such as large steel structures. These can interfere with the phone signals. Stand or sit further away from metal items.

Step 2

Position yourself close to an open space if you are talking on the phone while in a building. This will help avoid obstructions that can interfere with the signal on your phone, as well as help find the better reception point for your cell phone.

Step 3

Hold your mobile phone in a way in which you're not touching the phone's antenna. Many antennas are located at the top portion of the phone, so hold your phone at its base. Covering the antenna will interfere with the strength of the signals on your phone.

Step 4

Fully charge your phone on a regular basis. Some signals are weakened when there is little battery left on the phone.

Step 5

Obtain an amplifier, also known as a power booster plug, for your phone. Plug the power booster into an electrical outlet and to your phone. Although the cell phone’s mobility is affected, power boosters usually increase reception and signal.
