The Amazon Kindle Store has thousands of books for your Kindle to choose from. Amazon offers three different ways for you to get the books you want onto your Kindle device. If you recently ordered a Kindle and are waiting for it to arrive, you can order books for your Kindle now and they will be on your device when it arrives.

Step 1

Open your Web browser and go to Amazon's "Manage Your Kindle Page." Scroll down the screen until you see the "Your Default 1-Click Payment Method" field. Click "Edit" in that field to create or change the 1-Click payment method associated with your Kindle, if necessary.

Step 2

Go to the Kindle Store and find a book that you want on your Kindle. If you are just testing out how to get a book on your Kindle and do not want to make a purchase, click "Free eBook Collections" in the menu on the left side of the screen to find classic and promotional books. Once you find a book you want to read, look for the "Buy Now with 1-Click" button on the right-side of the book's page in the store. In the drop-down menu labeled "Deliver to:" directly beneath the "1-Click" button, select how you want the book delivered. Now, click the "Buy Now with 1-Click" button. If you chose to have the book delivered to your Kindle, the next time you turn on your device's wireless function, the book will be sent to the device. If you chose to transfer the book to your computer, proceed to the next step.

Step 3

Connect your Kindle to your computer with the USB cable. When the autorun menu appears on screen, click "Open folder to view files." Find where you downloaded the book to on your computer. Drag the book's icon onto the "Documents" folder in the Kindle window and release the mouse button. Disconnect your Kindle from your computer. The book is now on your device.

Step 4

To shop for books on your Kindle, press the device's "Menu" button. Click "Shop in Kindle Store." Find a book you want to read, then click "Buy." The book will download to your Kindle.
