Having the knowledge on how to back up the hard drive of an Xbox console can save you time when you want to back up your games. The hard drive in an Xbox console is similar to any other computer hard drive. You can even use the hard drive as storage to back up files from your computer once you have it connected. In order for you to back up the hard drive you first need to remove it from the Xbox console.
Step 1
Remove the "shiny" plastic metal shell on the top of your Xbox console by pressing the button at the bottom. Remove the plastic seal. Remove the four visible screws that are hidden under the plastic seal with the T-6 screwdriver.
Step 2
Pull up the top side slowly. Remove four more Torx screws under the top side of the seal with the T-10 screwdriver. Remove the thin metal cover to view the 2.5" hard drive.
Step 3
Disconnect the hard drive cable and lift up the metal casing to slide out the hard drive. Open your computer case and connect the S-ATA cable from your computer's motherboard to the Xbox hard drive. Connect the S-ATA power cable from your computer power supply to your hard drive. You can also buy an S-ATA-to-USB adapter if you don't want to open the case of your computer.
Step 4
Download Xplorer360 for free and install it on your PC to make a back up of your Xbox hard drive. This application will allow you to view all the files on your disk. Click the "Drive" menu then click "Backup Image" to make a full back up of your hard drive.
