Both factory settings and battery power contribute to the Sony VAIO computer screen brightness. Manually adjust either the factory settings or the battery power to brighten the computer screen. The lower the brightness, the more you conserve battery power. Adjust the brightness to help reduce eye strain, provide a clearer picture in direct sunlight or add visual clarity to documents and web pages. Do not use the screen brightness as a source of light; always have a second light source, such as a lamp, nearby.

Step 1

Right-click the "Power Panel" icon in the system tray. It resembles a battery. Click "Edit/Create Profiles."

Step 2

Click "Maximum Battery Life" on the left-hand side of the screen. On the right-hand side, click "LCD Brightness." Of the nine levels of brightness, Level 9 is the brightest.

Step 3

Choose your brightness level. Then click the "Save" icon on the top left of the screen.

Step 4

Close the window and restart the Sony VAIO for changes to take effect.
