How to Add Voicemail on a BlackBerry

by Jason Spidle

Configuring voice mail on your BlackBerry is one of the first tasks you'll want to do with a new smart phone. Some of the specifics will differ slightly depending on your BlackBerry model and service provider, but the steps to access and set your voice mail greeting are the same across all models and carriers.

Step 1

Select "Main Menu" on the BlackBerry and click "Call Log."

Step 2

Select "Options" and then click "Voice Mail."

Step 3

Enter your phone number as the "Access Number" and click "OK." If your carrier requires an access PIN, enter a four-digit numerical password that you can easily remember and click "OK."

Step 4

Record your voice mail greeting by calling your own phone number. Alternatively, you can select "Voice Mail" from your contact list.

Step 5

Follow the voice prompts to configure your voice mail greeting. Depending on your carrier, the prompts may differ slightly but ultimately you will now record the greeting that plays when someone reaches your voice mailbox. When you are satisfied with what you've recorded, simply hang up to set the greeting.

Tip

  • The standard method for accessing and configuring your voice mail on a BlackBerry is to call your number. If you are not given immediate access to the settings dialog of your voice mail, press "#" and enter your access code if prompted. If you have not configured an access code, the default usually is "1111."

Warning

  • Voice mail is managed by your phone carrier and not BlackBerry. Although the access and configuration steps are standard, there may be slight differences that contradict the steps described in this tutorial. If you have difficulty configuring your voice mail, contact your carrier for further assistance.
