The iPod Shuffle is a miniature iPod without a screen, and is best used for short trips, exercising and other types of on-the-go activities. In order to add music to your iPod Shuffle you'll need to have the latest version of iTunes, which can be downloaded for free from the official Apple website. Once downloaded and installed, you have the option to either manually add music to the iPod Shuffle or have it automatically added when connected to your computer.

Step 1

Plug the iPod cable into your computer's USB port, and connect the iPod Shuffle to the dock connector.

Step 2

Open the Applications folder in Finder and double-click the iTunes icon on your Macintosh computer, or for PCs click "Start" in the left corner of the screen, and click "Program" "iTunes" and "iTunes."

Step 3

Click the "iPod Shuffle" tab under the Devices section in the iTunes sidebar, and select the "Music" tab in the main section of the iTunes program window.

Step 4

Check the box next to "Sync Music." Select either "Entire music library" or "Selected playlists, artists and genres." Check the box next to "Automatically fill free space with songs."

Step 5

Check the boxes next to the playlists, artists or genres you want to sync if you choose "Selected playlists, artists and genres." Click the "Apply" button at the bottom of the program window to sync the music to your iPod Shuffle.
