How to Add iPhone Applications Without a Sync

You can browse the iTunes Store on a Mac or PC to find new apps and games to install on your iPhone. After you download an app in iTunes to your computer, you can your iPhone with your computer to transfer the app to the mobile device. However, you don't need a computer to operate and update your iPhone. You can browse and download apps right from your iPhone using the App Store.

Step 1

Confirm that your iPhone has an active Wi-Fi or 3G network connection.

Step 2

Tap on the "App Store" icon on the iPhone's home screen.

Step 3

Use the Search or Categories tabs at the bottom of the screen to find an app that you want to install on your iPhone.

Step 4

Tap on the button that displays the app's price or the word "Free."

Step 5

Tap the "Buy App" or "Install Now" button to confirm your purchase.

Step 6

Enter the email address and password for your iTunes Store account and then tap "OK." The iPhone downloads and installs the selected app.

Tip

• If you still sync your iPhone to iTunes on your computer, the next time you connect the phone, iTunes copies any apps purchased on the iPhone to the iTunes library. Syncing is a good way to keep your iPhone backed up.
