Verizon Wireless customers have the ability to purchase new phones any time. If you purchase your new phone in a Verizon store, a Verizon employee activates your phone on your behalf. If you order a new phone on the Verizon website, it is shipped via overnight delivery and it is up to you to activate your new device. With an existing Verizon plan, activating your new phone automatically deactivates your old phone; the process takes only a few minutes.
Charge your new phone before activating it. Your new phone comes with a charger and new battery. Insert the battery into your phone and plug it into the charger for a few hours until it is completely charged. Before you insert your battery, write down the phone’s ESN/MEID number, which is located on the inside of the battery section of your phone.
Log in to your Verizon Wireless account and click “My Account.” Locate the “My Phone” and click on the “Activate Phone” link. Read the terms and click on the “Activate New Phone” link. Turn off your old phone.
Enter the ESN/MEID in the box provided and submit your request to activate your new phone.
Read the instructions provided; you must now turn on your new phone and dial *228. Press one to program your phone and wait until an automated voice tells you your phone is programmed.
