Cell phones have become commonplace. Many households have multiple cell phones, some of which are old and no longer active. Cell phone users may wish to activate an older phone on Verizon's network to replace a lost or damaged phone while maintaining the same service. It is easy to transfer a cell phone to Verizon that is inactive or working on another network, as long as it is compatible with Verizon's cell tower infrastructure.
Locate and write down your phone's IMEI, MEID and ESN identification numbers. These are commonly located underneath the phone's battery. These strings of numbers identify the individual phone. You need them to connect the cell phone to Verizon's networks.
If you are transferring your phone from another network, contact your old service provider to ensure the phone is disconnected from their networks. Provide the phone's identification numbers and request that the phone be removed from any active phone plans. If your phone is active on another network, it cannot be activated on Verizon's network.
Confirm that the phone you are activating is compatible with Verizon's cellular network. To find this information, search Verizon's home page to see if your phone's model is offered in their online store. Alternatively, contact Verizon's general customer service line at 1-800-837-4966.
Activate your phone by visiting Verizon's phone activation page online or calling 1-800-922-0204 from the cell phone. These methods will ask for your phone's identification numbers. Be sure to double-check them for accuracy as a single digit error will stop your phone from activating.
Turn off your phone completely and wait 30 seconds to allow it to reset on the network. Turn on your phone and it will be ready for service.
