You can use some BlackBerry smartphones to access the Internet on your computer. This is possible when you pay for a data plan for your cell phone that includes tethering. Tethering is the name for the process of connecting your laptop to the Internet in place of a modem or broadband card.

Step 1

Contact your cell phone service provider at a store or over the phone. Verify that your cell phone has data tethering support.

Step 2

Sign up for tethering service. You will probably have to sign up for Internet access on your phone along with data tethering. Make sure to purchase enough bandwidth so you don't incur overage charges.

Step 3

Attach your BlackBerry to your laptop using your USB connection cable. Download and install the most recent drivers and connection software from your cell phone service provider's website. Make sure to download the software for your exact phone model.

Step 4

Click "Start" then "All Programs" and open the connection program you downloaded from your cell phone service provider's site. Go back to their website if you need to find a tutorial for the program. The steps differ depending upon your cell provider and device.

Step 5

Disconnect from the Internet using the program when you are finished. This is important if your data usage is limited.
